"death toll will top 20,000 people at least"
The BBC has reported that the death toll for just the Miyago prefecture alone may top 15,000. Together with those dead or missing in the other areas near the epicenter, a BBC correspondent said that "it is looking increasingly clear that the death toll will top 20,000 people at least."
